Galaxy S11: latest rumor points to 8K recording and 20:9 aspect ratio
XDA contributors claim to have torn down the new update for the Samsung Camera app, which delivers photo and video on the Galaxy line of smartphones. As these code dissections often yield hints of what the software in question may be able to support in the future, they are often sources of leaked info on upcoming devices on which it could be installed.
Accordingly, this new decompilation reportedly shows that the Samsung Camera interface of the future may have an 8K recording option. Some of these strings also apparently call for an "108M" spec in a 4:3 ratio. This suggests that an appropriate megapixel count may become a possibility in the near future.
The Galaxy S11 is a potential next-generation flagship currently linked to the 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor from the same OEM. Therefore, this code may be intended for such a phone. Interestingly, the new strings also make a reference to a 20:9 aspect ratio, thus fueling speculation that the S11 may also have this spec in the future. Then again, some phones such as the Galaxy A70 also have this kind of screen.
Nevertheless, with one or two exceptions, premium SoCs such as the Exynos 9830 or Snapdragon 865 are required for 8K recording. Therefore, the earliest 2020 Samsung phone that could combine all of these features at this point is indeed the Galaxy S11. Then again, such a suite could also be saved for a Galaxy Note 11 or even later model.
The Samsung Camera app's latest update reportedly contains references to what next-generation premium phones from this OEM may be capable of. Its APK allegedly contains strings indicating the potential for 8K recording and a 20:9 aspect ratio. As others also mention 108M pixel counts, this may pertain to a Galaxy S10 or Note 10 successor.
