Apple will ensure Android phone makers don’t ‘use’ Slofies
At its September event this year, Apple introduced to the world ‘Slofies’. In its iPhone 11 launch event, Apple showcased slow motion selfie videos using its 12MP selfie camera at 120 frames per second. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant has filed a patent application with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to trademark the term 'Slofies'. As per the patent application, Apple wants the trademark to include the use of the word in "...standard characters without claim to any particular font style, size, or color."
This patent application — that cost Apple $400 — is aimed at preventing other smartphone makers and even app makers to use the word. In its patent application Apple describes 'slofies' as “downloadable computer software for use in capturing and recording video." This is also because this feature is also exclusive to the new iPhone lineup only that includes iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The company is not going to roll out a ‘slofie’ mode or app to previous generation owners of the iPhones.
Apple has given a major upgrade to its front camera with the iPhone 11 when compared to its predecessor iPhone XR. While the latter offers a 7MP TrueDepth camera with 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps, the former houses a 12MP TrueDepth camera with 4k video recording at 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps.
Even on the back, Apple has added a dual rear camera with the iPhone 11 that includes 12MP Ultra Wide (f/2.4 aperture) and Wide (f/1.8 aperture) cameras. It even comes with a dedicated Night Mode and auto adjustments that are missing in its predecessor. Further, it had added 2x optical zoom out and next-gen Smart HDR for photos.
