Huawei Mate 30 Pro launched with dual 40-megapixel camera, Kirin 990 5G SoC; Mate 30 tags along

Huawei Mate 30 ProHuawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro is now official. At an event held in Munich, Germany, the Chinese smartphone maker introduced its newest flagship to the global market. The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro builds on the success of P30 Pro and Mate 20 series. While the devices can be described as big-ticket launch from the world’s second-largest smartphone maker, it comes under difficult circumstances. The launch today is being overshadowed by the ban imposed by the US that has restricted it from working with technology companies like Google, Qualcomm, and Microsoft.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro, and Pro 5G: Specifications and pricing

Huawei Mate 30 Pro, just like its predecessor, is a spec behemoth in the smartphone market. The Chinese networking giant has managed to pack the best of everything to make it really premium device. The Mate 30 Pro comes with a glass back like its predecessor and has quad rear camera setup placed inside a circular module. The design is reminiscent of the Lumia 1020 from 2013. It will be available in green, lavender, black and breathing crystal colors.


The Mate 30 Pro features a 6.53-inch Flex OLED display with 2K+ (2,400×1,176 pixels) resolution. It also features a waterfall screen with 18.4:9 aspect ratio, 88-degree curved design similar to Vivo NEX 3 5G and in-display fingerprint scanner. Powered by Kirin 990, it comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB. It runs EMUI 10-based on Android 10 but lacks access to Google applications. On the software end, Huawei has also added multi-screen collaboration on the smartphone but it is likely limited to Huawei-branded laptops. There is 3D face unlock, IP68 water and dust resistance, 4,500mAh battery with Huawei SuperCharge 40W wired and Wireless Huawei SuperCharge 27W charging. It also comes with a new reverse charging technology allowing 15W charging.
The company has also added a “Gesture Sensor” in the front camera notch for a number of AI-powered features along with IR sensor. These features include “AI private View”, “AI Gesture control”, and “AI Auto-Rotate”. The company has also added a new “Slide-Touch interaction” including an invisible virtual key on the side. It also provides support for voice and volume controls on both sides of the device. It also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, which was missing from its predecessor. Users will also get the usual connectivity options including Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth v5.1, and USB Type-C port.

The camera specifications

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro has four rear cameras with 40-megapixel optically stabilized “Cine” primary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens and f/1.6 aperture. The second camera features a 40-megapixel RYYB sensor with f/1.6 aperture and up to 4,09,600 ISO. Moving to the next camera we have an 8-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens and support for 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom, and 30x digital zoom. The last one is used for 3D depth sensing.
Other features include ultra low-light video, ultra slow-motion video at 7680 fps, real-time cinematic bokeh and 4K HDR+ time-lapse. The 7680 fps video is 8 times slower than 960fps. At the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The Mate 30 Pro is priced at €1,099 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB model. Buyers will have the option to get the device in two different finishes and multiple colors. Talking about the regular glass finish, buyers can choose from Space Silver, Emerald Green, Cosmic Purple, and Black.
In addition to the usual 4G version, Huawei has also announced a 5G version of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G is similar to the regular 4G Mate 30 Pro with two key differences. First is the inclusion of Kirin 990 5G SoC with support of Dual SIM 5G support. The second one is two additional color options including Orange and Forest Green in a new leather-like texture finish. The company has priced the 5G variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage for €1,199.

Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 5G: Price and Specifications

In comparison, the Mate 30 is the under-specced version of the Mate 30 with a larger display and fewer cameras. It features a 6.62-inch rigid OLED display with Full HD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) resolution and IP53 certification. Powered by Kirin 990, it comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. There is 4,200mAh battery with support for Huawei SuperCharge 40W wired and SuperCharge 27W wireless charging.

It also runs EMUI 10 based on Android 10 and lacks support for Google apps. For imaging, there is a 40-megapixel main camera paired with a 16-megapixel super-wide-angle and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. Similar to Mate 30 Pro, the Mate 30 also supports 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom. At the front, there is a 24-megapixel selfie camera.  The 8GB RAM variant will set you back by €799.
Similar to the Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 also comes with a 5G variant with Kirin 990 5G SoC with support for Dual 5G SIM support. Other specifications are similar to the Mate 30 Pro with addition for a 3.5mm audio socket in the connectivity department. Users also get similar color and finish options in the Mate 30 as the Mate 30 Pro. There is no information on the Indian pricing or availability of the devices
